Bolton 2-1 West Ham: The fans’ view
Sunday February 22nd, 2009
The Bolton Wanderers match report you won’t read in the papers (or see on Match of the Day)
Here’s what the various Bolton Wanderers discussion forums made of the 2-1 home win over West Ham…
Positives
- “We played like out lives depended on it today. It was a really hard-fought win.”
- “Where are all the short-sighted morons who were calling for Megson’s head a few weeks ago now?” (I’m right here!)
- “It was a horrible game but a win is a win and that’s all that matters.”
- “Matt Taylor’s free-kick was fantastic… he should be in the England squad” and “Kevin Davies had Matthew Upson in his back pocket all afternoon” … “Gary Cahill was man of the match though for that goal line clearance near the end. He deserves an England call too.”
- “The players seem to have a psychological block when it comes to going 2-0 up but hopefully this win will put an end to it” … “their negativity certainly wasn’t down to Megson’s tactics, who was screaming at them to get forward.”
- “West Ham fans were whinging about Kevin Davies, but both Mark Noble and Upson should have been given straight red cards” … in fact… “the officials were awful today, especially the linesman at the end we were defending in the first half.”
Negatives
- “We got absolutely battered and were lucky to win. Survival is still going to be a struggle.”
- “Once we went 2-0 up we just completely back-pedaled and allowed Scott Parker to take control of the midfield. After that we were completely overrun.”
- “Jussi Jaaskelainen had an uncharacteristically nervous day today, although to be fair his goal was under attack for 70 minutes of the game.”
