How the press reported the Whites’ 2-1 home win over West Ham
The Guardian praises Gary Megson for adding new qualities to the robust template laid out by Sam Allardyce, citing Kevin Davies’ goal as an example of what Bolton are capable of when they put their minds to it.
The Times begged to differ, saying that Bolton will never win any points for artisitic impression, and the Mail on Sunday said the Wanderers yet again treated a two-goal lead as a curse rather than a blessing.
Elsewhere, the Times stuck the boot in further by suggesting West Ham would have got something out of the game but for some awful referering decisions.
Almost all the papers suggested Kevin Davies and Gary Cahill are close to England call-ups, although the Telegraph preferred to concentrate on the international credentials of West Ham’s Scott Parker.
Bolton supporter Shaun O’Gara rightly said this was a psychological victory in the Observer’s fans section and the News of the World said Megson was entitled to feel a little smug in his ongoing battle to win the Bolton fans over.
The opening spell of the game was a “blitzkrieg” according to the Mirror but the Hammers deserved a point according to another of their match reports.
