The Burning Question: Should Bolton sell Kevin Nolan to Newcastle?

The Wanderers skipper looks like he’s on his way to Newcastle United, but is it a good move for the Whites?

With nearly 10 years and over 300 games under his belt as a Wanderer, Kevin Nolan has been a good servant.

But it’s hard to get past the fact that he’s a shadow of the player he was three or four years ago and £4.5 million is a good price for a player who is no longer integral to the Bolton team.

I suspect Newcastle fans, who may remember the energetic, goalscoring Nolan of a few years back, will be sadly disappointed if the deal does go through.

They’re a club that seem to be in turmoil right now and I’m pretty sure that Nolan – a run-of-the-mill midfielder these days – is not the man to save them from relegation.

What do you think? Will you be glad to see the back of Nolan, or is it sad to see a player who’s played a central part in many of our recent successes leave the club?

Have your say in the comments below…

I personaly think Bolton have done very very well out of the deal.
Unfortunately for the lad, if he was a yard or 2 quicker then maybe a good player, but sadly he isnt, he cant tackle, he cant run a game, he cant get from box to box like other midfielders, the 471 Bus from Bolton to Bury can turn round quicker than Kevin Nolan. I honestly think the lad whos come through the ranks Chris Basham is twice the player Nolan is and iv only seen him play twice!!!
So thanks for all the work you have done for us Kev and I wish you all the best in your career, but ya time at Bolton is now over.

All the best

I’m a Newcastle fan. I would welcome the signing of Nolan. To be honest, at the moment we have a team full of players that don’t deserve to put the shirt on, they have no fight and no passion bar a few exceptions. I’ve always looked as a player that has always played for Bolton with passion and pride. A “Shadow of the player he was three or four years ago” to you but a lifeline to us regardless.

@stevo

Most Bolton fans will tell you Nolan only ever thrived when he was surrounded by quality: Okocha, Djorkaeff, Campo et al.

If you haven’t got that kind of quality, which it sounds like you haven’t, then it’s difficult to see how Nolan will do anything other than just blend in with what you’ve got.

Having said that, he may feel like he’s got a point to prove. I’ve always liked him so I hope he does well, although not too well obviously…

@Chris Deary….”although not too well obviously…”…LOL.

I think he will link up with Barton quite well in Midfield (when fit), not just because of the Liverpool link but they are quite similar players in many ways. We had Geremi in midfield against Man City…..he was shocking……so Nolan I reckon is a good signing for us especially when we thought the club weren’t going to sign any players at all. Newcastle Vs Sunderland…..what a game to have your debut on!

Bad move. Although not at in his prime we’re hardly flush with players. Hope we use the money to bring in a decent replacement. Spurs on Sat should be interesting!

True, but you have to assume the £4.5 million will be reinvested in a replacement(s). Or, as someone just said to me via text… “a couple of unknown Africans”

Last night when the story first broke, I thought the cash would be used to buy Veloso. Obviously not.

I’ve got a horrible, horrible feeling we’ll see a big, lumbering Polish striker again…
