The curious case of the Bolton manager’s new contract
According to Phil Gartside, Gary Megson signed a new contract with Bolton Wanderers two weeks ago.
Megson himself is not so sure. Following today’s 1-0 win over Newcastle, he told Setanta that “it’s not a new contract”.
In another curious twist, Megson also revealed that he has never signed a contract “here” (presumably meaning with Bolton).
Either way, it seems Megson and Bolton are now betrothed until at least 2011.
What do you think? Does Megson deserve a new contract? Is he really in such demand with other clubs that it was necessary for Gartside to tie us in to Megson financially for the next two years?

No, the only time i’ve really thought he was any good was in Munich and at the end of last season, but on both instances i looked back at the performances and realised that it was because the players were playing for each other and not just the money, Megson’s tactics have always been dire and we are very lucky we stayed up when we played such defensive football. A few years Gartside said he had huge ambition for the club but he hasnt delivered it, purely because of his stingy choices in manager, i highly, highly doubt he even went looking for a foreign manager with an attacking mentality, so we got lumped with this peanut.
