Recommended reading (5.11.08): It’s official… Bolton Wanderers are rubbish. And so are Phil Gartside’s ideas

What Manny Road has been reading (and thinking) about Bolton Wanderers today…
- Some stats from Martin Tyler on Sky Sports suggesting Bolton have been rubbish in derbies over the last year or so (I think he’ll find Bolton have been rubbish in most matches over the last 12 months, derbies or not).
- This excellent explanation of why it’s time Gary Megson was sacked.
- A discussion on The Bolton News forum suggesting Burnley fans are worried Owen Coyle will replace Megson (he has to be sacked first!).
- This debate about Phil Gartside’s idea for a two-tier Premier League. This comment sums it up for me:
Utterly ridiculous idea. Only 20 years ago, Bolton Wanderers were in the bottom tier. One would think a club with history like that would appreciate promotion.
- This article (on a Norwich City website of all places) reporting Gartside’s idea in more detail (his argument is still undermined by the fact that under his rules the Wanderers would never have achieved what they have over the last eight years). For a history lesson Mr Gartside could see this discussion on where we were 23 years ago.
- This tribute to the in-form Jlloyd Samuel (I have to confess I’d written him off as a bad buy too so fair play to him for proving us both wrong).
- Transfer rumours linking the Whites with Swansea’s Ferrie Bodde and Leeds’ Fabian Delph again.
- Gretar Steinsson talking about how much he loves Bolton Wanderers (normally I’m sceptical when I see footballers saying things like this but in Steinsson’s case I’m willing to believe it given the way he interacts with the fans both during and after games… if only Nicky Hunt had shown similar passion: we are his hometown club after all!).
- And finally… Good to see it didn’t take El-Hadji Diouf long to get amongst the negative headlines at Sunderland.
