The Burning Question: Do the Wanderers need a new club badge?

Should the campaign for a new badge start here?
I blogged last week about how Bolton should avoid producing another unpopular and embarrassing kit by getting fans to vote on it next time round.
In the comments for that post another issue came to the fore too: the club badge.
Trotter wrote…
The first priority should be to ditch the current abomination which has to be the worst club crest in the entire league. It ranks alongside fat men with flags and music after goals, as the ultimate small-time statement from a marketing department that understands nothing about the history and traditions of a football club.
You can just imagine the meeting can’t you? ‘Why have the red rose of Lancashire on your kit, I mean it’s sooooo provincial isn’t it? Let’s replace it with a couple of squiggles representing the orgasm of delight I’m having at my own self-importance!’
Presumably the same clowns were also responsible for ditching the navy blue shorts in favour of an all-white Leeds United-style kit a few seasons ago.
Bring back the old badge! The campaign starts here!
The current abomination is above. Here are a couple of its predecessors…
Which do you prefer? Is it time Bolton reverted to something with a little more soul? Should the campaign for a new badge start here, as Trotter says, or have we got bigger fish to fry?
Have your say in the comments below…

I would like the develpment of a new badge. Inheriting the elephant badage and having the BWFC ball in the center of the shield
I don’t think the current badge is that bad, it’s just the squiggly lines that make it look stupid. They also make it look stupid when you’re doodling.
Get rid of the squiggles. Who came up with that idea?

I like the older badge, it has more character and history, the new badge looks like something Garside made out of alphabet soup

The old badge is the best and we should have never changed it! We should stick with the traditional BWFC and just get rid of the squiggles underneath.

no dont change it i got a tatoo of the new badge about 5 years ago on my left arm, being honest i reckon it should be a picture of lofty the lion
Back to the elephant badge I say. What the devil are the squiggles supposed to represent anyway? The elephant one is much better.

Would love to see the Shirt and the bagdge go back to a Retro style. The England shirt has done it!
Time to return to the more traditional badge that we actually won things with. Ditch the quasi 1970′s Leeds squiggle! Oh and can we go back to Burnden?

I don’t think the current badge or kit are too bad and the new kit they’ve released isn’t as bad as some we’ve had in the past few seasons. But I agree about atleast bringing back the Red Rose of Lancashire as part of the design! We seem to have forgotten too much of our history in recent times across football in general, bring back Burnden (though you can’t argue that the Reebok is a great stadium) I never got to go before they knocked it down. And bring back being allowed to tackle too!
